RAUTAHAT, APR 30 – Budhan Raya of Hardiya VDC-7 in the district has been displaced ever since he suffered from leprosy a decade ago. According to Raya, the villagers kicked him out of the village in fear of contracting the disease. However, Raya is now cured and wishes to be rehabilitated in his village.
“The villagers kicked me out of the village after finding out about my disease,” he said. Raya was admitted to a Lalgad-based hospital with the help of a group of people. Raya is currently living in a hut on the side of a canal near Hardiya village with his daughter Rina Yadav and son-in-law Sukhal after he sold off his only plot of land for his treatment.
Raya’s wife had abandoned him after learning about  his disease. He  still fears of being treated as an outcast if he returned to his village. “I want to return home but I am scared of  the villagers.”
