After two years of searching, Rising Star Outreach found and purchased a beautiful 14 acre plot of land in September of 2005 in Uthiramerur. Surrounded by hundreds of coconut and mango trees, the land will eventually be home to 450 children from leprosy colonies all over India, as well as 300 underprivileged children from the nearby villages. Here, the children will be taught self-sufficiency skills, english, computer technology, and many other important lessons to help them become successful citizens of India.
To preserve the effects of family life, the children's homes are designed by architect Prasad Yadev in small pods where a small group of children live in a little home with their own house mother. These small houses will be build in a semi-circle and connected by grassy pathways and open space. The area will be called the Children's Village.
Construction began on the main school (design shown above) and the first homes in the Children's Village in February 2007. The first phase is expected to be completed by May. Eventually, the campus will also be home to a home for the aged, a toddler's home, a permanent medical clinic, staff and volunteer housing, and a library/computer lab for the school and local villages to share.
