Quarterly correspondence

How it works
Getting started is simple
Sign up
Complete a short survey about your interests and what you’re looking for.
We match you
We thoughtfully pair you with a student based on your survey and their needs — usually within two weeks.
Your welcome box
A box arrives in about 5–7 business days with a reveal card introducing your student.
Start connecting
Log in to your sponsor portal and begin writing, calling, and building a friendship.

What the program is like for our students
The STARS program was developed to create an immersive experience not only for our sponsors, but also for our students.
Through the many ways to stay in touch, our students get to learn about your culture firsthand, practice their English with you, expand their understanding of the world around them, and be empowered by your encouragement and friendship.

Students in the STARS program also take a Match-Up Survey, so their preferences are considered just as much as their sponsor’s.
Students who don’t yet have a personal sponsor are placed first in line for new sponsor match-ups.
Students who are matched with a new sponsor also get to open a reveal envelope and learn more about their sponsor.

New sponsor questions, answered
Can I sponsor more than one student?
Yes! Many sponsors support more than one student. You can also sponsor an entire classroom — learn about classroom sponsorships.
What level of involvement is expected?
You can participate as much or as little as you would like. The program is flexible — though the more you put in, the richer the experience becomes for both you and your student.
When will my student match be revealed?
Your reveal card arrives in your welcome box within about 10 business days. If it’s delayed, email our STARS manager at hellosponsor@risingstaroutreach.org.
What if I just want to donate monthly?
You’re welcome to set up a recurring gift to our education program instead — give to education.
Can I give the STARS program as a gift?
Absolutely — it’s a meaningful gift for ages 5 to 105. Just mark it as a gift during signup.
Can I send my student an individual gift?
To keep things fair for every student, gifts are shared through our Star Store, Amazon wish lists, and birthday funds rather than sent to one individual. Letters, cards, and drawings, though, are always welcome — and they mean the world.
